Fine French professional violin from a highly respected copyist atelier of the 20th century – Audinot-Mourot.

Victor Audinot was a distinguished French luthier recognized for his mastery of the classical tradition. He was the son of Charles Audinot and completed his apprenticeship under François Chardin and Télésphore Barbé (who trained with Honoré Derazey and J.B. Vuillaume). He briefly worked in Mirecourt. In 1913, he established a prominent workshop on Rue Truffaut in Paris, where he specialized in crafting meticulous replicas of historical masterpieces, including the “Sunrise” Stradivarius.

Victor Audinot used the label Audinot-Mourot to reflect the joint work of his family business, as “Mourot” was the maiden name of his wife, Marie-Augustine Mourot. This naming convention followed a common French tradition among luthiers to combine surnames when family members—particularly sons—joined the workshop or to distinguish specific workshop production. Audinot-Mourot remained a central figure in Parisian violin making until his retirement in 1936, leaving behind violins celebrated for their technical precision and sophisticated tonal quality.
